When are dental veneers used?

This blog will give you information about when dental veneers are used.

Dental veneers are the most demanded aesthetic dental procedures. Dental veneers are thin, tooth-coloured coverings or shells which adhere to the tooth to improve your smile and to protect the surface of the tooth from damage.

These veneers have good durability and longevity holding a total lifespan from 6-12 years if maintained well. After which they could need a replacement depending on the damage occurred.

There are 2 main types of dental veneers: porcelain veneers and composite veneers. A thorough cosmetic analysis is required by your dentist to know if you are an eligible candidate for veneers.

Dental veneers are used to fix the following dental issues:

TOOTH DISCOLORATION

· When the tooth gets brown or black as it happens when the tooth is dead, veneers are a good option. Front teeth which has big fillings on it and which appears very artificial is a good candidate for the veneer. Some intrinsic stains as seen in fluorosis, tetracycline staining or any other staining of teeth which happens from within the teeth would make the tooth look unesthetic. In such cases, veneers are an option. Dental veneers are custom made to fit over the teeth to improve the colour and hide the overall discolouration to improve the smile and appearance.

DENTAL TRAUMA

·      Broken down or chipped teeth, worn out teeth, teeth with any malformations. Slightly thicker veneers are used for replacing the chipped off or broken teeth. However, severely fractured or broken teeth can not be treated by veneers.

MILD TO MODERATE DENTAL MALAIGNMENTS

Multiple diastemas or spaces between the teeth

·      Teeth with spaces or gaps between them

·      Maligned teeth not requiring orthodontics

Teeth with mild to moderate dental malalignments which do not require orthodontic corrections can be fixed by dental veneers to give an aesthetic appearance.
